News 3 LV
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Competitive eating titan Joey Chestnut is returning to Las Vegas next month to defend his cream cheese-topped crown.
Chestnut, the No. 1 ranked eater, has been announced as one of the competitors in the third annual Siegel’s Bagelmania World Bagel Eating Championship on Saturday, Feb. 1.
Major League Eating competitors will battle for the championship title and belt, plus a share of $10,000 in prize money.
Last year, Chestnut won the title by eating 15 bagels with cream cheese, narrowly edging out Geoffrey Esper’s 14.5 bagels.
“Las Vegas is the ultimate stage where legends are made and world champions are crowned,” Sam Barclay, emcee at Major League Eating, said in a statement. “This year promises to be one for the history books as our elite eaters seek to claim the coveted Bagel-Eating Champion title.”
Esper still holds the world record for bagels eaten with 17.75. It’s one of the few records Chestnut has been unable to claim in his storied career.
Other top-ranked eaters lined up to compete include Patrick Bertoletti, James Webb, Nick Wehry, Gideon Oji and George Chiger. The contest is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at Siegel’s Bagelmania at 252 Convention Center Dr.
