Fox 25

Legendary competitive eater Joey Chestnut has a new record in his sights, and he’s coming to Las Vegas to devour it.

Chestnut will compete in the World Bagel Eating Championship in Las Vegas next month, Major League Eating announced on Wednesday.

The contest will be held at Siegel’s Bagelmania near the Las Vegas Convention Center on Saturday, Jan. 13, starting at 11 a.m.

At stake will be a championship title and $10,000 in prize money. Other top-ranked eaters scheduled to compete include No. 2-ranked Geoffrey Esper, former Las Vegas valley resident Miki Sudo, and current Las Vegas resident Derek Hendrickson, plus Nick Wehry, James Webb and Patrick Bertoletti.

Esper set the current world record by eating 17.75 bagels with cream cheese in eight minutes during the 2023 contest.

“Las Vegas is where all great competitors come to showcase their talents and become world champions,” Sam Barclay, emcee at Major League Eating, said in a news release. “This year, we anticipate a new world record as our top-eaters fight for the prestigious title of Bagel-Eating Champion.”

The contest is open to the public. Guests will receive a free commemorative t-shirt, while supplies last.
